Please note: Type A Yoga is a beginner-friendly studio.
Students new to yoga are welcome in ALL classes unless specifically noted otherwise.
Classes are for adults unless otherwise specified, although teens 16+ may attend if accompanied by an adult.
Occasionally children under 16 may attend a regular class with parents but only if prior arrangements have been made with the instructor in advance.
This class is designed to teach poses for physical fitness, emotional wellness, and stress management. Poses are adapted with the use of props in order to make them accessible to every body type. The class is loosely based on the Iyengar tradition and its focus on anatomical alignment.
Very Detailed Yoga
After a while we noticed our Yoga for Total Newbies class was getting popular with people who weren't Newbies. Some people aren't naturally kinesthetic learners and prefer highly detailed verbal and visual instruction to a lot of movement and picking it up as they go along. This class slowly and methodically covers principles of yoga pose mechanics and movement to help teach yoga to people who spend more time in their head than in their bodies.
Beginning Vinyasa Flow
Vinyasa Flow can be intimidating because of its faster pace and flowing style. This class is designed to provide a beginning student a solid foundation in poses so they feel more confident when they attend mixed level classes.
Wake Up Yoga
Start your morning off with yoga! This class is designed to heal the ails of modern living and working (frazzled mind, tense neck and shoulders, weak, tight low back and hips), leaving you energized for the rest of your day.
Lunchtime Yoga
Designed for the people who need to squeeze some yoga into their busy day, this short but sweet class is active and invigorating but light on exertion, keeping you fresh for the office rather than feeling like you've had a "work out."
Wind Down Yoga
Relax and unwind from your day with a strong, yet deeply relaxing practice. With an emphasis on deep, conscious breathing, this class focuses on building strength, core power and inner awareness, leaving you feeling renewed and refreshed.
Welcome Back Yoga (Mixed Level)
If you've practiced yoga at all, you've probably had a lapse in your practice. Overcoming that challenge just goes with the territory! In this class, we help ease you back into the rigors of your prior practice by giving you a class with all of the benefits of our other mixed level classes, but in a slower, less physically demanding style to help EASE you back into your old habits.
Hatha Yoga (Mixed Level)
This class combines a variety of yoga traditions to produce a well rounded practice for both beginners and more advanced practitioners.
Vinyasa Flow (Mixed Level)
While some yoga styles encourage holding poses for long periods of time, flow style yoga connects poses together in a smoother, more aerobic and active style. While many classes have elements of vinyasa flow in them, this class is designed with the active, high energy practitioner in mind and even occasionally includes Power Yoga influences.
Heart Healthy Yoga
This class will incorporate sequences that will get the heart pumping and the blood flowing, and will be infused with poses that open what is often called the “heart center” in yogic terminology. This will be done through gentle backbends and postures that encourage the body to spread across the chest and shoulders. Finally, this class will help you to discover and develop your sense of internal strength, courage and vitality!
Yoga Study Hall
Type A Yoga believes in the power of a personal practice, but we know you may not have the space available. "Yoga Study Hall" is an opportunity for our community to stop in and use our resources to meditate or try a few Sun Salutations on their own. Donations gratefully accepted.
ChillOut Challenge Yoga
No one knows how challenging it can be to relax better than a Type A personality! This physically accessible class focuses on guiding students of any body type or physical condition (even prenatal!) to engage in deep relaxation and to restore energy for the week ahead!
Restorative Yoga
Restorative yoga is designed to help students calm their nervous systems and counter stress. Students are set up on props such as blankets and bolsters in three to five deeply relaxing, meditative poses that are held for long periods of time.
Waiting for a class in development? Local Moms-- join our sponsored Meetup group! This group is open to all local moms and moms-to-be, regardless of age of child or yoga practice. The group is just to give our moms a chance to spend time with other women who have "been there"... We'll post class updates, but all members can propose meetups of any kind, including hikes, playdates, trips to the park, etc.
Prenatal Yoga
A gentle yoga class designed for women in either their second or third trimester.* This class focused on calming techniques, breathing exercises, body awareness, and gentle poses to combat the physical and emotional effects unique to pregnancy. (Note our new class, ChillOut Challenge!)
* Some doctors do not recommend beginning a new exercise plan in the first trimester due to risks to implantation. First trimester students who have already been practicing yoga may join this class with prior instructor consent and doctor approval.
Kids Yoga/Youth Yoga
These classes teach coordination, confidence, and social skills and encourage children to learn self-calming and mental focus techniques in a developmentally appropriate environment. Usually a simultaneous adults class is held in the other studio to give parents and caregivers a chance to squeeze in time for their own yoga practice. (Age range is listed on the schedule.) Weekend classes coming Summer 2013-- Join the class update list!
